Myanmar Earthquake Committee (MEC)
Established in 1999, the Myanmar Earthquake Committee is a national expert body under the Myanmar Engineering Society. MEC is dedicated to enhancing earthquake preparedness, seismic hazard assessment, and structural safety throughout Myanmar.
Our core missions:
- Conduct scientific research on earthquakes and active faults
- Develop seismic hazard and risk maps
- Support earthquake-resistant design and building codes
- Collaborate with international seismic monitoring agencies
- Raise public awareness on earthquake safety
MEC works closely with the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH), universities, research institutes, and local/international partners to strengthen Myanmar's resilience to earthquakes.
